Scarecrow Competition
Worzel puts his design head on!Now Chorlton's Big Green Festival invites YOU to do the same!
We invite you to take part in our Scarecrow Competition for this year’s Chorlton's Big Green Festival on Saturday 27 March 2010. We'd like to involve as many different types of groups as possible – schools, allotment societies, arts organisations, local businesses, shops, etc – in showing off their talents.
The theme of this year’s festival is "Growing Locally" – but you can interpret that brief as broadly as you like – let your imagination run wild! Your scarecrow should be constructed from any type of recycled or biodegradable and waterproof material – old broomsticks, clothes, plantpots, buckets, footballs, shoes, bags, wigs... Why not set a scene for your scarecrow with furniture or show him or her in action? You could even incorporate some actual living plants – so get going with growing those broad beans on the windowsill!
If you are a Chorlton trader, your scarecrow could reflect the nature of your business and be displayed in your window or outside your shop during the week running up to the festival. Again you can make it (or them) as wild and wacky as you want – just keep it family friendly!
Schools, allotments and other organisations are asked to deliver their scarecrows direct to us at St Clement's Church, where we plan to display a parade of scarecrows together. We’ll need them by 10am on Saturday 27 March. Please let us know in advance if you have any problems getting them to us and we will try to arrange to pick them up – we have a great wheelbarrow...
